      Noun - the complete failure of an electric power to an area (aka power cut / power failure / power outage (AmE).!Note - In wartime it describes the period when all lights must be turned off or covered to prevent them being seen by the enemy during an air raid.  |

!Note - If you write it as two words "black out" it becomes a verb and can mean to lose consiousness or to obliterate something with the colour black, as in crossing out words on a page or print on a screen.
