Bitter

Noun - Beer that is strongly flavoured with hops and has a bitter taste.

Adjective - used to describe something with a sharp, pungent taste or smell.

Sweet

Noun - A small shaped piece of confectionery made with sugar. Also another word for desert.

Adjective - used to describe the taste characteristic of sugar or honey; not salty, sour, or bitter.

Bittersweet

Adjective - used to describe a mixture of pain and pleasure, like a pleasant memory, tinged with sadness. In food and drink we use it to describe something sweet with a bitter aftertaste.
