Skit 3 - Paying in a cafe

Instructions to the English teacher

Get the students to alternate roles.

Pre teach:-

  • Excuse me. - To get the waiter's attention (not "Waiter!")
  • Certainly or of course. - To agree to do something.
  • "I'd like to pay." = "I'd like the bill."
  • "Keep the change." to give a tip.
Alternative 1
Student 1 Customer Excuse me!
Student 2 Waiter/waitress Yes?
Student 1 Customer I'd like to pay, please.
Student 2 Waiter/waitress Certainly. That will be £1.50 please.
Student 1 Customer Here's £2.00. Keep the change.

 

Alternative 2
Student 1 Customer Excuse me!
Student 2 Waiter/waitress Yes?
Student 1 Customer I'd like the bill, please.
Student 2 Waiter/waitress Of course. Here it is.
Student 1 Customer Thank you.
Extension -

Get the students to write out a bill to present to the 'customer'.
