Job Titles

A business vocabulary game

by Lynne Hand

Instructions to the English teacher

Review the abbreviations of job titles you often find in business today.

Write some of the possible abbreviations on the board then brainstorm to see if the students know the correct meaning.

For example:-

CEO – Chief Executive Officer.
CFO – Chief Financial Officer.
CIO – Chief Information Officer.
COO – Chief Operations Officer.

Then have the students think up their own C ? O job titles.

CCO - Chief Cleaning Officer
CEO - Chief Elevator Officer
CMO - Chief Mood Officer

Extension

You can then get the students to choose one or two of the best suggestions and write out a brief job description, qualifications/experience necessary and the annual salary.

Be warned it can get very silly!
