The text accompanying the photograph reads, "A handprint left in the icy snow. An outline or indentation left by a hand".

Photo of the month - November 2007

This month's vibrant photo is from our regular contributor, Judo Dad  It's called "Catch!" And it shows a fish that's been caught on a hook.

The text reads, "The catch of the day. Fishing is the activity of hunting for fish by hooking, trapping, or gathering. By extension, the term fishing is applied to pursuing other aquatic animals such as various types of shellfish, squid, octopus, turtles, frogs, and some edible marine invertebrates. The term fishing is not usually applied to pursuing aquatic mammals such as whales, where the term "whaling" is more appropriate, or to commercial fish farming. Fishing is an ancient and worldwide practice with various techniques and traditions and it has been transformed by modern technological developments. In addition to providing food through harvesting fish, modern fishing is both a recreational and professional sport. According to FAO statistics, the total number of fishermen and fish-farmers is estimated to be 38 million. Fisheries provide direct and indirect employment to an estimated 200 million people worldwide."

Photo of the month - September 2007

This month's photo is mine.  It's called "Eat Money!"

Taken in my living room it illustrates the following saying:-

"Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned
and the last fish has been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money."

Taken in Montreal it shows a group of women drumming their support at the Fifa U20 football match.

The text under the photo reads, "Supporting their soccer team at the Fifa U20 World Cup in Montreal."

Of course in the US and Canada football is called soccer.

July's photo is from me.  It's called "Fairy Tales". Taken in Dusseldorf it shows a plaque with a young man apparently passing gold coins.

The text on the plaque reads (in German):-

"Dies Marchen Wird Wohl Niemals Wahr. Das Leben Lehrt Sei Klug Und Spar."

English translation:-

"This fairytale will probably never come true. Life teaches you to be smart and save."

Photo of the month - June 2007

This month's photo is from  judo_dad1953.  It's called "Biscuit".  In the foreground there's a plate of chocolate chip biscuits or cookies and in the background there are some books and a woman reading, or maybe studying.  The caption reads "Pour me some milk!"

In the UK you can call them biscuits or cookies, in the US they would be called cookies, because you only give biscuits to dogs.

Photo of the month - May 2007

This month's cute seasonal photo is from Yettis doings. It's called "Come in 34 yer thymes up".  A play on words - thyme is a herb you can serve with lamb and if you go out on a boating lake in the UK each boat has a number; go over your alotted time and you will be called in with these words.

It shows a group of lambs, frolicking in a green field.  The caption reads "Mint sauce, there said it for you!"  Mint sauce is also often served with lamb and it's a standing joke to shout this at lambs in fields. Cruel, but true.

Photo of the month - February 2007

February's photo is called called "Croci" and it was taken by me. It shows crocuses in the snow.

The photograph records the sight that met me one morning in January, when due to the unseasonal warmth a lot of spring flowers were caught by a sudden spell of cold weather.

The caption reads "Snow in Germany this morning. Caught these guys out. The plural of crocus can be crocus, crocuses or croci. Confused? You will be."
